BrGPT
Brazil’s first ChatGPT integration with WhatsApp, later expanded into a multi-model, multi-channel AI platform.

01
Problem
Make generative AI accessible through channels people already used, beginning with WhatsApp at a time when ChatGPT access was frequently unstable.
02
My responsibility
I launched the first version on 11 January 2023 and owned product, architecture, Python backend, model integrations, asynchronous processing and channel delivery.
03
Architecture
Python services coordinated OpenAI, Gemini and Claude models with Celery for asynchronous workloads on AWS. The product grew from WhatsApp into web, mobile, Telegram and Facebook Messenger clients.
04
Technical challenges
Channel-specific flows, model latency, provider routing and cost control across WhatsApp and multiple model APIs.
05
Results
The platform surpassed 10,000 users and reached around 50 paying subscribers. Users received a 10-message trial before plans starting at R$25 per month, and the subscriber service remained active for roughly one year.
06
Why the project ended
Through third parties, I received a warning about potential legal action by OpenAI over the BrGPT name; the message did not come directly from OpenAI. At the same time, WhatsApp and model API operating costs were higher than customer acquisition costs and were not offset by subscription revenue. These factors drove the closure, which coincided with my move to a company developing a competing platform.
